About Jennifer
Helping Families Find Their Common Ground in Education
For more than two decades, I’ve been an educator, reading specialist, instructional leader, curriculum designer, coach, and—most importantly—an advocate for students and families.
I’ve spent my career working at the intersection of teaching, learning, and student support. As a classroom teacher and Reading Specialist in Baltimore City and Baltimore County Public Schools, I’ve seen firsthand how complex the educational system can be. I’ve worked alongside teachers and administrators, designed curriculum and intervention programs, analyzed student data, led literacy and mathematics initiatives, coached educators, and partnered with families to support student success.
I also understand that navigating education can feel overwhelming for families—especially when a child needs additional support. Through my work as an educational advocate, I have supported families as they navigate special education, Section 504, educational planning, and collaboration with school teams. I help parents understand their options, prepare for important conversations, ask the right questions, and become confident partners in their child’s education.
My approach is grounded in both expertise and empathy. I believe parents should never feel like they have to choose between advocating strongly for their child and maintaining a positive relationship with their child’s school. When families and educators have the information, communication, and support they need, they can find common ground—and that is where meaningful progress can begin.
I hold a Master of Arts in Reading Specialist from Loyola University Maryland and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I am certified as a Reading Specialist (K–12), with additional certifications in elementary and early childhood education.
I am also a published middle-grade author. My book, More Than Blood, reflects my passion for literacy, reading engagement, and helping young people see themselves as capable readers and learners.
I created Common Ground Education Advocacy because I believe every student deserves to be understood, every parent deserves to be heard, and every family deserves support when navigating the educational system.
My goal is simple: to empower parents, support students, and help families and schools move forward together.
Because advocacy isn't about choosing sides.
It's about finding common ground.
